Green Flag status for the Oporto British School

On Tuesday September 29th, Mrs Joanne Mitchell took 6 students representing the Oporto British School to Santa Maria da Feira, Europarque.  This was to receive the ‘Green Flag’ for environmentally friendly practice. The morning was spent observing exhibitions and participating in hands on events, such as paper making andthe construction of bird houses.

The students were extremely enthusiastic, cooperative and responsive to the various activities and workshops. They produced two bird boxes which are now hanging in the school grounds to try and increase the biodiversity of bird species around the campus. The students also came away with numerous ideas regarding improving our existing Eco programme and to improve Eco awareness of the staff, parents and students.

In the afternoon students representing the Oporto British School were awarded the Green Flag status. Our Head Boy André Neto Bradley and Eco Committee Chairman, Pedro Henriques represented the School in receiving the award.

This year we intend to organise a number of interesting Eco events for the education and enjoyment of both students and staff.

I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to all the students, staff (in particular Mr. Alexis Toye and more recently, Mrs Joanne Mitchell) and parents involved in this project, culminating in the presentation of Green Flag status to the Oporto British School.

Mr. M. W. Clack
Head of Senior School
