STUDENT LIFE
CAS & Duke of Edinburgh Award
CAS
Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is a core part of the IB Diploma programme that all students must complete. Students are able to enhance their personal and interpersonal skills by learning through experience. Students engage with opportunities to build and demonstrate self-determination and collaboration while gaining a sense of achievement from their work.
CAS is a way for students to counterbalance the academic demands of the Diploma Programme. At OBS, we take a whole school approach to help prepare the future IB Diploma students for this exciting and important challenge.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Secondary students at OBS have the opportunity to take part in the International Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DofE) run by the Prémio Infante D. Henrique in Portugal. This is a great opportunity to develop attributes such as leadership, teamwork, communication and commitment.
We have over 50 students participating in the award. They are now underway with completing 3-6 months of activities in voluntary service, skills and physical recreation. Students have been involved in supporting younger children in primary, volunteering their time to charities and supporting our local community. In the spring term, they will be learning camp craft, first aid and navigational skills ready for our practice expedition.
