      Raquel Garcia

      Raquel Garcia studied Línguas e Literaturas Modernas at Porto University, in Faculdade de Letras and has received training, instruction and learning actions over the last few years. She has worked in education and training of learners of different age groups. She joined OBS in November 2017 and she enjoys helping students to improve their language skills and to achieve their academic goals.

      In her spare time, Raquel enjoys travelling with her family and visiting cultural places. She is also fond of music, sport, cinema and her pets.

      Vanessa Benitez

      Vanessa Benitez is a secondary and IB Spanish as a foreign language teacher, who joined OBS in October 2014. She received her bachelor´s degree in Educación Social and her postgraduate degree in Pedagogía from Complutense University of Madrid, city where she was born. More recently, she has specialized with a Master´s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign and Second language at University of Minho. She worked in education and teachers training for Madrid´s Regional Government before joining this school.

      Portuguese Teacher. 

      Sandra Silva wanted to become a teacher from a very early age, inspired by a wonderful primary teacher named Professora Eduarda, who was an example of focus, determination and dedication to her students. Professora Sandra has been teaching for 8 years after graduating top of her class in Escola Superior de Educação do Porto. In her first year of teaching Professora Sandra worked in two different schools in Maia. In March 2008 the opportunity to work at OBS arrived and, since then, Professora Sandra has been employed teaching Portuguese within the Modern Languages Department from Prep up to Form 5 and also as a support teacher. Since October 2009, Sandra has worked in the Senior Section, with aged 11-18 pupils. In this capacity she teaches Portuguese and Portuguese as a Second Language and provides support within the Modern Languages Department. Sandra is passionate about her subject and innovative in her approach to teaching; in doing so, Sandra is able to inspire her pupils. She has high academic standards and expects equal commitment from her pupils. Outside work Sandra enjoys travelling, reading, music and theatre. She loves going for long walks on the beach or in the park with her husband and her two dogs and spending time with family and friends.

      Cristina Bridges

      Computing Teacher,  Head of ICT

      Cristina Bridges has been teaching ICT at the Oporto British School since 2004. Prior to that she taught Languages in London. While there she also worked as a freelance journalist and interviewed famous football players such as Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristina Bridges was born and lived in France where she took her Baccalauréat. She then studied in the Universidade de Coimbra and King’s College London. More recently she has specialized in IT in Education at the Universidade Católica do Porto. She is currently a CIE Examiner.

      Matthew Homewood is the Head of Physical Education and joined the OBS in January 2014. He qualified with honours from the University of Brighton in Bachelor of Science (Sport & Exercise) and began teaching in post 16 education in 1995.

      Matthew Homewood is the Head of Physical Education and joined the OBS in January 2014. He qualified with honours from the University of Brighton in Bachelor of Science (Sport & Exercise) and began teaching in post 16 education in 1995. 

      He has over 20 years of experience as a teacher, examiner and manager and has been able to help his colleges achieve Outstanding grades from Ofsted, a Beacon award for Innovation in Employer Engagement as well as, personally, an Educational management award at the House of Lords.  Matthew has taught a wide range of science-based subjects from Biology & Physics to PE, Psychology and Business. Outside of school, Matthew enjoys time with his young family as well as playing golf, tennis, cricket and football (when possible) and is an avid skier.

In 2004-2005 she embarked on a Graduate teaching programme with Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford whilst working at the Plume school, Maldon. Her first qualified teaching role was secured in 2005 with Shenfield High school, Brentwood, Essex. Her role was primarily a Business Studies teacher, instructing GCSE, BTEC Business and A levels. After four years in this role, she secured a Head of Department role for Business and Economics in a private international school in Blantyre, Malawi. After completing a two year contract, she secured a Head of Sixth form and Business Studies teacher role in Zambia, Lusaka. After another two happy years there, she secured her role here at Oporto British School as Business Studies teacher.

      Raquel Nunes graduated as a biologist in 1999. Over the years she has done research in areas such as plant biology and the immune and circulatory systems, in several laboratories in Portugal, France and the US. Dr Nunes obtained her PhD in Molecular Immunology in 2008, from Faculdade de Ciências Biomédicas de Abel Salazar.

      Although originally from Moscow, Anastasia considers herself to be truly international. She acquired her first joined degree in Biology and Educational Studies (BSc, Hons) as well as a teaching qualification (PGCE) in Oxford, UK. Out of the 7 years of teaching experience that followed, Anastasia spent a considerable amount of time teaching in the UK and leading the science department in an international school in Moscow.

      Lisa Craig has taught English and English as a Second Language in several Australian secondary schools. Since 1989, her experience in Portugal has ranged from introducing 4 year olds to the English language to lecturing and teacher training in higher education. In 2007, Lisa completed her MA (Applied Linguistics, Monash University) and joined OBS staff on a full-time basis; teaching English, Geography, History and Religious Education in the senior school over the years. She has authored various educational books aimed at primary school for the Australian National Curriculum.
