Fall Festival in Lisbon

In November, fifteen boys from Forms 7 to 9 travelled to Lisbon to compete in a demanding three-day international schools basketball tournament, playing an intense schedule of seven matches. From the outset, the level of competition was exceptionally high. Many opposing teams were physically stronger, more experienced, and well accustomed to elite tournament play. Nevertheless, the boys embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer.

Throughout the tournament, the squad’s positive attitude was a defining feature. Even when results did not fall in their favour, there was no loss of energy or motivation. The players consistently supported one another demonstrating a strong collective identity built on cooperation and teamwork. While this shared approach was central to their style of play, there were also moments when individual ability came to the fore: timely steals, accurate three-point shooting, and powerful driving layups that shifted momentum and kept matches competitive.

Although many opponents posed significant challenges, the boys ensured that no game was easily won. Most matches remained closely contested until the final moments, with the team repeatedly rising to each challenge. Their resilience and determination proved to be their greatest strengths.

Ultimately, the team’s success extended well beyond results on the scoreboard. Their conduct throughout the tournament, defined by respect, positivity, and a genuine love of the game, left a lasting impression on fellow competitors and officials alike. This exemplary attitude was recognised with the tournament’s Fair Play Award, a fitting reflection of their Lisbon experience: competitive, committed, and guided by the very best values of basketball.
