IB Biology Heart dissection

In an exciting Form 12 Biology lesson, students rolled up their sleeves to dissect a pig’s heart. Armed with scalpels and forceps, they carefully examined the heart’s internal structures, including the chambers, valves, coronary arteries, and the heart’s thick, specialised muscle that powers blood circulation.

Through this hands-on exploration, students not only learned how blood flows but also discovered the vital role coronary arteries play in nourishing the heart muscle. Observing the heart’s unique structure gave them a deeper understanding of its function and its connection to overall cardiovascular health.

And while they explored the inner workings, you could say they truly got to the “heart of the matter”—and even tugged on a few heartstrings in the process!
