Duke of Edinburgh First Aid training

On Monday 10th February the whole of Form 9 and those participating in the Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award from Forms 10 to 12 took part in a day of First Aid training.  Students were taught how to stay calm when faced with a medical emergency, what to pack in a first aid kit and how to report an incident to the emergency services.  They learned the basics skills required for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and enjoyed practising to the Staying Alive by the Bee Gees many times during the day.

During the afternoon topics such as choking, drowning, heart attack and angina, panic attacks, anaphylaxis, burns, stings and bites were covered as well as many other possible medical emergencies.  The day finished with the students learning how to strap and bandage various different parts of the body which they then practised on each other with much hilarity and amusement.
