Alumna Visit: Maria João Cerqueira Inspires Students with UN Sustainable Goals

On Wednesday, February 19th, we had the pleasure of welcoming back one of our esteemed alumnae, Maria João Cerqueira, to our school. Maria, a former OBS student, is now making a significant impact as a Senior Project Manager for the pedagogical sector at YOUTHDREAM, a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to educational initiatives. One of their key projects, Nahir e os ODS, is designed to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through storytelling and interactive learning.

During the visit, Maria and the YOUTHDREAM team engaged our students in an exciting and meaningful learning experience. They introduced Nahir, a fictional character created to help children understand and connect with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Through storytelling and hands-on activities, each year group explored SDGs that directly relate to their curriculum topics, making the learning experience both relevant and engaging.
The students had a fantastic time participating in the activities, linking their classroom knowledge to global sustainability efforts. The visit not only reinforced the importance of the UN’s goals but also showed our students how they can contribute to a better future.
