STUDENT LIFE
CAS & Duke of Edinburgh Award
CAS
Creativity, activity, service (CAS) is a core part of the IB Diploma programme that all students must complete. Students are able to enhance their personal and interpersonal skills by learning through experience. Students engage with opportunities to build and demonstrate self-determination and collaboration while gaining a sense of achievement from their work.
CAS is a way for students to counterbalance the academic demands of the Diploma Programme. At OBS, we take a whole school approach to help prepare the future IB Diploma students for this exciting and important challenge.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Secondary students at OBS have the opportunity to take part in the International Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DofE) run by the Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award Portugal. This is a great opportunity to develop attributes such as leadership, teamwork, communication and commitment.
We have over 70 students participating in the award. They are now underway with completing 3-12months of activities in voluntary service, skills and physical recreation. Students have been involved in supporting younger children in primary, volunteering their time to charities and supporting our local community. During their club sessions, they are trained in camp craft, first aid and navigational skills ready for their practice and qualifying expeditions.
