In Biology, Form 9 students have been asked to apply their theoretical knowledge about photosynthesis and the growth of plants to address the challenges farmers face today as they grow plants that feed the ever-increasing human population. We are very impressed with the way they engaged with the task and produced some fantastic presentations with original and creative, but also highly viable ideas for what food production should look like in the future. Many students suggested incorporating technology such as soil sensors, that communicate with human monitored apps, to apply precise quantities of water and fertilizer to avoid waste and pollution. Some suggested adopting a permaculture technique to promote biodiversity and attract insects that are crucial pollinators, such as bees.
